0:20 So amber james nice media and and we run our glasgow because ain't you do called what else to do we started probably in january and we also started scotland's first graphic design pistol we're going to tell you about about that and out Johnny hope you can understand this if you can't show you.

0:40 So yeah the face the ball for anyone that doesn't actually know anything about what we did or what graphic designs Viswa scotland days it was our five day program that we organized in october and was our life to the project we've invited it of Scotland's best reduce to act as mentors for groups of students and recent graduates while they worked on a 2d project and give you know advice and a bit of direction or the worker on the project.

1:11 And we had what shots with our host of uk-based and international studios I'll once Nate with lots of music what's of drinks and some posters and why else would we have five days and curated music and a bunch of stuff so we'll show you some photos about what the hell this thing. Actually was and then heavy pinned up there then some stuff that happened along the way yeah.

1:35 So we created the space with an about queer house and gospel and invited law to kill designers and Scottish design innocent to come and get involved and we started that were alive through the project so James and failure thankin behind us.

1:50 So the life to the project as I mentioned there was where all the participants responded to one brief independently and their own direction within the one open pine space but that group of around about 100 participants were broken down into the eight groups by the studios that were involved and then at the end of it all the studios would select the two strongest projects and a grip after the two days we then get what placements so it's kind of our a good deed at the same time is a bit of fun but there was something.

2:18 So we'll show you some moves so here's some of their so base we had some judges involved some from it's nice that graphic a feiven and Vic you up and just that and got involved so he s Jamie from its thinks that there will take you to listen force so this is one of the breakout Kretz then denies do the project some of the work one of the breakout sessions with one of the mentors some ping pong so had the kind of large open-plan industrial space one main room ping pong DJ booth a rowing exhibition with an end by be spread sure they were called what place off what car sprint and unbar o the morning to late very important 10 years even more important and snacks and a mom was running the bar so it's pretty fun yeah for sure another crate and some people walking some prints to these trophies one for the best one for the sake one for the third thought you'd expect framed in sandy Jane from numbers saw the music was quite an important part of it for the five days we invited five record labels and five can a cop promoters to come and curate a day of guests to come and play records for a full day in the space and guys that I used to pay for can I beg audiences and really upbeat club stuff it's quite a challenge for them because as in Europe is background music people creating work.

3:36 So I had to be quite am being had to be quite stripped backs or through an HP had the numbers so wait so good drop a call the dissolving dance for hand Perth ok.

3:48 So we paid them my fears which they were delighted to have from Anderson guy so we had the whole group of guys coming in every day doing music while people were making design and had a really nice cross disciplinary net what could on people collaborate and talk about what you saw the board in which is really nice so unafraid of the festival we decided to launch and exhibitions from the month before that we started this idea of an international poster competition.

4:12 So we invited people from across the world to send and posters they could be of any format any idea. And we thought our will get faster posters and we ended up with three thousand so that's just the start over so we decided to put these on an expression obviously program with some of the best designers that we've ever heard of we love the work we decided to put this on an exhibition.

4:40 So this happened on the fray DNA and glassful I said he sent a location I friends over there transform the police enter gallery I was actually an old stinking artists space and and we should should the post therefore note that floor used to be the same color as the barrel and the walls used to be raw plaster board so this was like two or three days of just straight up courts and courts of emotion and the girl was done an amazing job virtually just bleaching before what so on a Friday night we decided to display the best of these 80 posters em and we had a launch party with a pound beers and it was a really good night the guys from acre from and Julia from 44 flavors who might actually lead in workshops at the festival had a few hours sleep during the day which was good so yeah after the one snake the middle we had three days of workshops to add some guys from a Stevie creative doing kind of take based animation and film workshops forth war flavors doing some construction outside there's the final structure hot during our print based publication I'm playing around resort ordered a plant-based watch shop fourth fourth leave us again okeali who did a split screen film based workshop hot again case will scream I heard a dar a product-based workshop as part of their do theme hey I need an informal honest I did we decide to an informal talks like we'd then we had organized the bat Hardin so the guys from the international gangs come through the workshop we decided that they would want to just talk and that's what they were doing so will like user dinner and they stood up.

6:19 And we did I get played from Glasgow came home at the beer and the guys done between five minutes and half an hour and between some degen a car from Port having a great old time. And so how that was our side in a talk tonight over the first of all.

6:36 So we had a bit I apologies more bombard me with like sword information here I'm of quit aware that beer that the whole point the face of all boys wanted to get people a chance to land develop skills and grow there's not much like that's happening in Scotland went to the power graphic and visual designers brain graphic design and to the public domain create links between students and industry encourage networking throughout the design community and provide a platform for up-and-coming designers to showcase the ones about 10 years behind so we built it was time to really do something.

7:07 And its final spire of the young guys so we're going to tell you about her nest a stood and YB this idea. And I work in a journey together CA starting college base and I decided to start working together on collaborating on projects things seem to go quite well we won a couple of pictures that we were involved with and then we realized that we both had quite big intentions great big ambitions and in both wanted to create an event about design so thats a bird seed was enough a fair video flesh you.

7:40 So we were in a college of art and a fourth year. And we decided that it was time to do something good so we've collaborated to know these projects Africa we had a ready to show your vaca snap we've done and so on so okay. So clear I came through the wreckage of our and they've done a workshop and they give this idea that we could one a work placement let's get him.

8:01 So they patched it to the first second third years of eight under college of art at that time we were fourth year.

8:07 So we can't be involved so we decided to get that for the beam guy who was giving it what placements so we staged a kidnapping a tumbler put a bag all be saying anyway the police time that we won than friendship we never ended up doing it.

8:21 But the race actually it was good by the time the fair deal was good Shane mackade sure you can we'll put on a mystic but yeah at this point we had the idea for the Facebook uneven and we spoke to afraid if it was an extent at the college I mean he kind of gives a bit of advice and at that point we changed it to be called graphic design festival Scotland which gave us a lot of weight made it seem a lot more an official me that seemed like a kind of almost government supported organization but really we were setting in my kitchen on a racial people with like beers and one laptop just try to work something out South shouldn't don't know what we're doing but we invited all these guys they were all up for it.

8:58 So we thought god this is going to happen so we actually ended up in eating so many people they all ended up seeing you so with a bunch of Scottish mentors who are the best and Scotland a good bunch of people some of the best in Europe that you see over there.

9:13 And I poster competition judges from Felix filippi avani French designers our judges record labels our sponsors Anderson gun deutsche bank we transfer partners like the bass face that was in the world. And we had this idea and actually at that point was like message gonna happen and we need to do it and everyone wants us to do see a be at this point we had the names confirmed we thought right I start promoting this thing because we're asking these people to take part in an event that had no name it didn't exist we had no website we had so we thought right time to get a name let's get these names that have said yes they're not falling onto some sort of promotion let's put out there.

10:00 So we made an a three-year veto printed poster at this point gf's method said they're up for sponsoring it but more so be talked them into though and so yeah these were planted on nice natural I was blah blah blah scene for the music promotion the brief and at this point we'd know launched the social media and somehow graphic design festival bread I had passed our details on to show more design graphic which has been gone for 25 years now.

10:24 And then it put us forward as the new kids on the block so we were invited to represent scotland at the international center for graphic design at this point the rest o students and they don't know that we had no idea. So we done a speech at les first of all.

10:40 But we hadn't graduated to do and we were graduating next week and we had a final hand then.

10:44 So we thought it let's go and we made some of the best contacts will ever have and they've been really good this. And some really good friends there.

10:53 So yeah as a result of taking part in that international diffusers meeting we are no in partnership with the same events all across the world my graphic same face the ball braids are built for martin switzerland the golden be by any arm and moscow russia and seen up a kilt are who are our media partners in Scotland they may be cheeky up and let us know in the bottom so at that point we realized that idea was becoming real then I've on James's Fleur we thought we need some money here we don't have any money bring on a flash we don't have students so we decided to make business plans for these two businesses and we applied to deutsche bank and I suppose I shouldn't run award for 10 grand and we went so so a dutch bank gave us pain gun and to start this the schedule and festival ssize here on the deutsche bank website at the bombing I'm celebration night it's good fun and we made some jumping over we are bigoted you thank too much you're bumming home which is good so imagine so at that point we were selling uni and really wanted to do this we had 10 grands were like place but stop that unique and grad G we got a studio it's the size of the space here I'm real lover and so I run another time front also poster competition we don't have a p.o box we can afford one base grandpa perfect we invited to France again to do some work for our an ecological music / what would you describe a castle but there's never Satan's shipping so I'm no I catalyze I statement should you are doing a project their first of all stuff yeah.

12:41 So we had our twelve hundred beers delivered to an artist-run speaks and Glasgow and the guy who runs the space does what worth you know rehabilitation victims and people learning difficulties so all these beers got delivered the day before be arranged so we were actually in Aden block when he's got delivered city center pavement to the front door which is about year wait.

13:04 So the guy who runs the space and everyone and I current life drawing class had to tell them apart and bring them and create bitrate while we showed up don't afford to what the you said it was you know we say that the next day but these guys were all on a detox and hyper carry all my fear and the gallery skip hire meet the one of the district managers and as dr. Authorized that we buy fifty four bottles a table wine than one purchase not really an rageous that I'm old enough to explain I'm organizing an event and so this is one of dozens of trolleys that we carted into the back of some vans and we realized that we die really beg open weho space and we needed some cool perhaps tough plants develop my so we went to we asked like nine hundred different people to give us three plants and it never happened so met down local derbies for my friends manager and big sex underpins water plants put them at the James's car and that was our plans for the festival which I'm sure some of you should see and yes part the faith laws where we obviously need a lot of furniture stuff like this thanks to actually you know sure work and display things and DJ both for the guy so tanto I framed the maint uncle was there the prop Beldar the what's the word for the visual merchandise are for the glasgow flagship store and we just met the next day as soon as I heard that what they were met in the next day told them what we were up to it what we're trying to achieve and he was just like I'm up flip place to I suppose belt waist belt and furniture you're a designer I'll make it I've been out fat as became a supporter of that the about all the materials and plots or the face through the elliptical you'll show you them the thing yes I some stuffs or some DG boo sandwich boards a big scaffolding part fine to say what and I book kiss well doesn't like a good few of each of these anyway.

14:50 And we basically got all this plant booze sweets furniture and two by huge lock up we then lost the key the day before I shouldn't get the stuff right. I have to get a locksmith to drill the little yeah turned out the only way you can get our steel was a steal armored walk off as with a hard plate drove that can only be purchased by qualified walks so yeah the thing got chewed off which that was it.

15:18 So that's a second arm so then we brought after the festival has been a really long week with a great time who had absolutely shots and so the first of all the time the day after we decided to paint a mural and when a glass was really rough but traditionally well known areas with guys from 44 flavors in Berlin and reigns from Glasgow called Rico so we got absolutely shot but with this a pentakill moon up mural and this was that.

15:49 So the mural is based on the barrel lines which has baited is pretty rough same Glasgow it's not a great area but Scott of history markets were established there you know a couple hundred years ago absolutely feel I feel like all tarted like warehouse buildings really cool stalls and it's caught in a time warp sore what the the visuals are taken from that year I like the neon star saying outside and the auto sayings and yeah here's some details from not be our successes so we had a great week we had a great year everything we dreamed off it happened but importantly we've gained 16 students and graduates what placements with our men distri we had loads of people flying from the flick countries that ain't the first of all we made great partners we could make great friendships crossed us upon it plenary collaboration I could say the game with the guys from the music and always they start.

16:42 And I walking on a project with numbers which is great to hear or two trains coming together to work on something 3,000 poor sanitation more than 50 countries blows away an amazing feedback in energy all around and we actually did it which was good fun and I think we will ask to see what way we can improve next year. And we basically done this face they're worth us to some things for made them to call my mom and James's dad and looking back we should have more volunteers like everything been so smooth we would make any claim at the first of all we probably then turn off social media engage more people that aren't and InDesign obviously in what shops again for different people and a closing party we done a party when this lady and everyone was absolutely us out of this door so I think we'll do it on a Sunday know instead of the fraidy which was the main landing come from of the facebook yeah I won't say though all this we are trying to function and actually keep ourselves afloat as are you know professional design studio so we did some fun much fun train domain that runs a label called tropical and some other breathing Baca jobs that were probably not going to show you and they our job that we just recently finished for urban outfitters which we had before.

19:00 So this is a twin if it noodle and the glass was shot which we love and I hope you'll love it too and thanks for les enters and all we head down
