03So our third speaker tonight is the wonderful Rohan Wang ever since she graduated from Berlin University of the Arts we've been besotted with her chaotic colorful drawings animations and public art commissions as we'll see in a moment her work isn't limited by scale or by media and it's appeared everywhere from Shanghai to Jerusalem tonight she's going to be discussing how the theme of stretch or rather the concept of stretch influences her work.

25And so Rohan please turn on your audio and video and we'll say hello hi there hi how are you fantastic I have to say BER and you've got the best definitely got the best background there love those colors fantastic and you're dialing in from from Berlin is that right wonderful okay well listen I'm gonna let you share your screen like the others have and so if you start doing that then I will yeah I'll duck away and come back in a bit perfect hello everyone yeah.

06So I hope you are doing well so today so as you say I'm doing well too.

17This is this is our trend yeah I did in 2015 you thought Africa so the great moment yeah. So today it's such a pleasure that I'm doing that this life parents take the presentation now and today I'm going to talk about stretch we also stretch how I use the stretch in my art life like stretch we've understand it always as body language but yeah.

54So I it's also related to my artwork so how are you use the stretch on different mediums and also different scales so as next I would like talk short about myself yeah. So Rohan bong from China I started a visual communication in Berlin University art and after graduation in 2016 I became a full-time artist based in Berlin so especially in a location where is the furling TV a prison.

42So yeah there is a very funny story so as before I moved in I saw this. And I called my parents I find our space with it's a school with click run so yeah pretty happy so after I moved in so I realize that it's a prison it's like a screw for adults so it's a I think it's somehow we we have some invisible connection so between me and my teammates so I did this artwork.

21And I became special so next we come back to my studio so in the day the artists and me artists in the studio working on the painting the house and also my airbrush works in the daylight the studio view yeah of course if I did a lot of email stuff and a social media I have to work in a night so on my street there are two spots always right. So one is the prison another one is my studio so all of my paintings I can't it under electrolyte as you say also this is a latest work I did for sport company and yeah as you say embrace your natural tendencies nocturnal tendencies so we are still in my studio about we are seeing my legs yeah storage and isolated my legs on the top of setting and sometimes they are also known know now t so I brought him to outside and to park we stretched and yeah as I stretch my leg with my artificial legs and behind us there there. There were birthday party - so the contrary contradiction between us is like bitten real and artificial color and the legs it's somehow it's made a situation of harmony so yeah finished back so next as next I will introduce a solo show I teach in enter web last year.

19So the question is how to plan our show in a space which you never know I got a grassy some reason I couldn't be there so but I got the images of the space I know. There is so three big windows and also two doors and the floor every conditions I got the knowledge about that and the questions how can I note this huge space and bring my tiny prints to their mega solo show so firstly I choose the materials for the window windows so considering to the so elements like transparent light for transport and dividing friendly and also economy and I made prototype of that materials and this is this moment science in a space yeah we choose the legs always so as from my another works so I do so divide the develop it like 15 different shapes and also tiny prints fully asked composition. And I did this with my meter is small through 3d paper space so we tried different different shapes and different colors and everything ly out about that yeah.

53So also you say you have me and my talk as the with reference objects in the space so yeah here is the final three and we realized we realized the three big one three big fabrics and our trips I brought my artwork and my talk to enter their set up taste I used to like two days to set up the other thing and there's some great moments and now show time yeah. So here you say I I mean stretch I stretch means a lot like stretch I think it's about like how you eat creating how integrate the whole resource or or like conditions you have also like we saved resources but still we we find in a passed away we find the best solution we are put at to make a great thing happen so like left side is the window side outside I use the daylight and right side is the right side from the floor house so so so much different languages in the space make the space another wave I think also the small did a small details from nineteen things and also I use the references light yeah this is the yeah we made it in there with my dog so next one I'm talking about public art I think in Jerusalem yeah there is a very fun beginning about airbrushes so I as I got the imitation from the true rate broken fingers and goes down they ask me if I'm good at airbrushes so I was not very sure but yeah. I was but not very sure so I I immediately I went to supply store and I got the hair brushes I practiced in my studio and definitely not enough so I tried everything I can and and yeah a few days I said yes I am good at a brushes so let's next up we went to the sketch apart.

27So I did sketches and we even developed two different and the government chooses the last one because the positive reasons for the city so next time I fly us over there. And immediately in the night next day I got my tribe license elevator tribe license so in the in a human being we began with the projector and next morning so we see a lot of people there around corner supermarket and just in the cars so sure a brush doesn't work so for some healthy reason.

14So we decided with zeros and pinter so sure of course we prefer so so corrected cars of other people's and the safety first yeah I I found myself as a kids a baby than painting days yeah I walked so from afternoon in the height and it was really great moment and yeah as everybody doing by painting I use tapes to make lines and took off wow it's straight so I was pretty happy about that yeah also in the night we have to not have to work because it's a very chair in the night it's really employable so in the night working in a night in the Haight feels like I'm neza worker so sure yeah.

09So I made a details with help on this assistant and yeah we are done with the Wow so it's finished and about the content so considering the city Jerusalem is a city with contents three different religions so we want to speak on the wall to the people about a peaceful situation and also the the simple about a peace the plans and also a human developing the deaths of people and like a relief yeah and also on the bottom you see the car and it's it's reflected reflected to the drivers on the road some good greetings so as you see it's really nice to see people like no local people went to this public art to make interactions with with it and yeah.

19So here more details about it I'm pretty satisfied about the painting so about flashes instead airbrush because it's pretty close the two people are on the corner so people can see so many details and here you know. So in that I'm I think it's another beef and it's different so like divorce people just winds through there.

55And then you say like daily life runs no more but people still say the recall of the from my painting which is the very positive to the city and next one I will speak quickly about my exhibitions and actions yeah first they say solo exhibition my third in Berlin micron per space last year.

20So I showed the paintings and installations with paintings ups and also mine installations here legs and in the bottom you say the local of night so it's my logo so actually I'm this this part is my favorite part of the show because there is a black seed and I find us logic I just put like small thinking there to cover the plugs plug set but it means exit yeah and the next one next is also solo you should exhibition two years ago. And I showed four or five my paintings or in the size 100 150 and I'm 165 yeah in actions so my personal project bathroom in the park and in the top of meter Berlin and then in Shanghai police theater and the palms Shanghai and the show in Paris and our artists certainly in New York and especially issue here for Ola and here is in my studio and I were really the Chinese were these few and absolutely connected a free man yeah it's here and next I'm showing you the crazy movement I have yeah this I went to know me. And I hiked to a mountain yeah it was my life goal I reach it for this inquiry moment I I did this join in hotel and I also did the artwork for my for that movement and yeah.

18So after crazy life let's back to no more life so no more lay I am I I brought my puppy to go gassy see in German means means go walk a dog so yeah. So no some time I went to reverb to spring and I did my joints sketches ideas as I I was joined my puppy would think about life I think and yeah my assistants think I'm almost done I'm almost done so last sentence for you are when stretching we embrace the things we already have thank you very much thanks for her and that was absolutely great love that and also I love the idea that you got your like cherry picker license in in one single day that's amazing and I'm gonna ask you now to stop sharing your screen and I'm just got one question for you which has been submitted by by someone in our audience hi again and I guess it's a question about commercial work when you were starting out so when you were kind of yeah not very established when you're emerging how did you fight for your vision or style with clients was ever an issue I mean clients trying to change your style in a way that you didn't like yeah. So actually the that's logo of my logo like heart legs I divide it so you know very first beginning was my personal idea.

50But yeah. So later actually for that my first job was from CC purling and the project was about Heartbreak Hotel yeah.

03So I and so my desire was I put the half of body with hat and also and the people have got books with which is said books and the people Cancer Center all the set me seen the books print ricotta like so it works so I got my clients for this time and later and I got more projects but I think so my clients will always ask me why and then because they think it's kind of a bit positive I mean no negative so I explain and a tie I thought like I say I say legs as the cart legs it's not only like the best part of our part body but also that it's it's about simple aid from the visual communication side it's about communication they this sign about move and the movement and going on go on which is also positive so after this my clients still filled with all of my idea and also he also last supported it was like legs currently and I they I and I put a refresh of plans on it.

22So there is a lot of good meaning from this recitation legs yeah I mean actually our reputation of my tips theory so but there is a lot of good meaning for that ok interesting so yeah basically shout down your clients if they try and change your style maybe that's the takeaway there and right hand thanks so much I'm gonna ask you to turn your audio and video off but thank you for that presentation and for sewing for showing so much work I was I'm see amazing thank you
